"The Land Nav Clinic this past weekend was a treasure trove of tips and tricks which will be invaluable during the One Day AR this summer. Having spent some time in the infantry I felt I had a grasp on the technical side of navigation. The “insider’s look” you gave us on AR style navigating combined with your constant presence and subtle guidance in the field has opened my eyes to the artistic side. Contour lines, re-entries, and turning off your lights to better find your way in the dark all have new meanings which will not soon be forgotten. In short, the cost of the clinic is well worth the knowledge and experience gained. I cannot say it enough… Thanks for a job done well and sincerely! Jason" 09
"I would like to pass on my thanks and enthusiastic enjoyment of your AR O-gaine 24-hour race last weekend. This was my first 24-hour race and only my second race requiring 1:24,000 maps with UTM plotting -- and I had a GREAT time! More importantly, I'm look forward to doing this race again! Snow or no snow!
No amount of book learning can replace the experience (and the vast amount of practical knowledge) that I learned during this race -- both on how to (and how NOT to) navigate in the dark and in relearning how deal with heavy duty mental stress over time. All of it was well worth the price of admission!! Plus making a few friends during the race made me a firm believer that you should always form a team for any event over 12-hours. My next Odyssey race will defiantly be with some sort of team!
Looking forward to seeing the final results and possibly participating in the Odyssey AR race in January 2009! This time I'll remember to pack better shoes! ;) Cheers, Kyle" AR-O Nov '08
"OAR Staff,
I and my teammate wanted to thank you for the outstanding event you put on. Your organization and on hand staff, including medical personnel, made us feel like we had very little to worry about. This allowed us to take off the reigns and push ourselves to the limit because we knew we would be well taken care of. I was challenged almost from the beginning swim. Class VI had very professional guides and instruction. This helped build my confidence, as neither I nor my teammate had previous white water experience. The hiking and navigation afterwards was very difficult. This of course is the norm when doing anything in the New River area. Though we became hopelessly lost at one point, we were still having fun. The cycling at night was pretty awesome as well. Aside from being nearly freezing, and being chased off our course by rabid dogs, we made over half the check points for the cycling section. At about four a.m. we realized that we would not make the required cut off time, and decided to ride the 15 miles back to the camp. Overall the event ran very smoothly, and my team looks forward to doing it again next year. Your staff once again showed why they are the leaders in adventure race development and planning. Awesome job, and see you again next year!
Sincerely, Josh" WW '08

"Odyssey races are not cheap to do — but the organization, the concern for safety, to spirit and enthusiasm of the volunteers and staff, the attention to details, and so much more, made it all worth while.
