Roanoke's Amazing Race

Are you looking for something to liven up your conference in Roanoke?  Do you need an alternative to the typical afternoon golf outing?  Do you want to draw more participants to your conference? Then bring "Roanoke's Amazing Race" to your conference!

We are very excited to work with you and give your conference attendees an afternoon filled with physical activity, mental and social challenges, and give them a taste of Roanoke.  “Roanoke’s Amazing Race” is a new and unique event designed just for you.  Our goals are to:

  • Encourage mild to moderate physical activity for the participants,

  • Show the participants historic and unique features of Roanoke,

  • Involve the participants in Roanoke traditions,

  • Expose participants to several different modes of transportation available within Roanoke, and

  • Foster teamwork amongst the participants during the race.

The race can be custom tailored to your needs, but our basic format is 4-5 hours in length with a 15-minute race brief prior to the start.  The start of the race will be staged (1 minute spacing between starts), with two or three teams leaving at a time, each on different race courses.  All racers will go to the same places, just in a different order (so as to eliminate follow-the-leader type of racing).  At the beginning of the race and at each checkpoint, racers will be given a clue to their next checkpoint and instructions on what mode of transportation to use to get to their next checkpoint.  Some checkpoints will require racers to complete a mental, physical, or social challenge prior to receiving their next clue.  Modes of transportation will include by foot (running or walking), bicycling, and public transit. The fastest team to complete the race will be declared the winners.

Odyssey Adventure Racing will provide the following for Roanoke’s Amazing Race:

  • Full event management

  • Setup, management, and breakdown of headquarters/check-in

  • Maps & clues for competitors

  • Course set-up and clean-up

  • Assistance with sponsorship procurement from local businesses

  • Competitor registration and associated administration

  • Bicycles with helmets for participants use

  • Admission fee waivers and materials for challenges.

This special event is designed with the average person in mind.  Everyone will be able to have fun and finish the race, while some of your more athletic attendees will have fun going at a faster pace.  We look forward to working with you at your next conference!
