About Joy Marr :
Joy's outdoor experiences started with the family summer camping trips and cooking pancakes on the Hibatchi for her brothers and sisters. From early on she wanted to be a "Park Ranger" and eventually did become one.
Later while working on the New River in WV she brushed up against the sport of Adventure Racing, at a chance meeting with Don Mann, Mike Phyllips, Jon Kainer and Mike Nolan- all in WV to train for the RAID in So. Africa. Long story short, talked into (it wasn't hard) going along as support, her venture down the AR road was started. She eventually took a stab at Adventure Racing herserlf, by training for the RAID in Eucador with Team Odyssey. The team was the only US team to finish and came in 13th overall. Not bad for a girl from the river and backpacking genre.
Joy has been the logistical wizard behind many of Odyssey's events, making good use of her love of maps first honed on those family trips. She sticks mostly to designing race courses, pre running and directing these days. Though her friends still hound her to race. When not doing Odyssey business she maintains a successful catering business and ski patrols in the winter.

Susanna Greever
Director of Competitor Relations
(Email)
Lynchburg VA

|
|
About Susanna Greever :
Susanna first heard of Odyssey while working with Travis Overstreet in an outdoor retail shop. “Travis’s enthusiasm for the climb sites and admiration of the athletes was contagious. I couldn’t not go to a race to see what this sport was all about.” An experienced rock climber, she first joined the Dirty Dozen climbing crew at the 2000 Mega Dose and was fascinated by the incredibly strong athletes. The vibe of the event and super enjoyable folks-–from staff to competitors to volunteers-–kept her coming back for more.
Many moons and knots later she had the opportunity to run support for Al Becker, a retired SEAL who had just had hip surgery a few weeks prior. He managed to finish the One Day course smiling in spite of his hip (and perhaps because he consumed a beer at each ACP :^) ). With Al and many others as her inspiration, his son Travis managed to talk Susanna into training for the 2004 season. “I never had any intention of racing when I first started volunteering for Odyssey,” said Susanna. “I didn’t consider myself to be enough of an accomplished athlete to even show my face at the starting line. However, if you hang out with this community long enough, you will witness competitors of every size, shape, age, fitness level and background complete these brutal courses….and eventually someone’s enthusiasm and sly nature will get you suckered into trying one on for yourself!” The following season she attended the Odyssey Adventure Racing Academy, competed in the Endorphin Fix, and she's been hooked ever since, racing as her schedule allows.
Susanna joins the Odyssey staff with 18 years in the service industry and 7 years in restaurant and office management under her belt. She is also a state and nationally certified massage therapist. She recently joined the Odyssey staff as the Director of Competitor Relations where she’ll act as the woman behind the curtain corresponding with athletes, updating the website, posting race reports, and distributing dark chocolate to all who come into her path. Susanna can also be identified as the racer singing in the middle of the woods with a compass to her nose and espresso Hammer gel on her breath. |

Bedford VA

|
|
About Travis Overstreet :
Travis Overstreet and The Dirty Dozen are held respsonisble for
setting up rope sites at specified races. OAR defines the skill for the climb
site, but we have alot of leeway in the difficulty of the site. As a result of
doing this since October '98, we have become very aware of what competitors go thru
in the course of a race. Two members of our crew have competed in the E-Fix, and as
a result of this we have even more insight into the rigors of racing. To most of us
the skill levels needed (but not required) are astonishing, to say the least!
Within our team, the 'DD', we have mountain bikers, cross-country runners,
backpackers, mountaineers, white water canoeists and kayakers, climbers, and some
of the best outdoor gourmet cooks and campsites you'll ever see! We're all
sherpas (100+ lb. loads are not uncommon for some us) and several members of our team
are employed by outdoor retailers, including two
former Marines, and a father/son combination.
Our personal and everyday lives are just as diversified! As a
result of all of these combined skills and knowledge, we possess an amassed
amount of knowledge that can be useful to competitors and support crews (often
overlooked). For the most part we're not competitors-- we do these things for
the enjoyment of it! In addition to rigging the climb sites at adventure races, we offer certifications in whitewater paddling and climbing skills. We also have worked in the arena of
Teambuilding and the Weakest Link within a team. When we do a certification, we go past
the mininum requirements for certs, because we can! If myself or any member of
the 'DD' can be of any assistance to you or any member of your team, please
let me know. Take care and be safe!!
